Philosophy of Education
I believe:
۰ it is the duty of the teacher to be well informed of research-based best practices to ensure students are receiving an education rooted in empirically supported information.
۰ it is the goal of education is to engage the students in an educational atmosphere that enables them to grow academically, socially, and emotionally so they can become productive contributors to society.
۰ assessment must drive instruction.
۰teachers must use multiple approaches of instruction and assessment to reach each of the four types of learners: visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile.
۰ it is the teacher’s responsibility to utilize differentiated instruction, so each child learns to use his or her strengths to help improve his or her weaknesses.
۰ the teacher’s attitude towards learning (whether positive or negative) will directly affect the productivity and educational advancement of students.
۰ self reflection, which should be a lifelong process, is an invaluable tool to help teachers continually improve their instructional methods.
۰ a teacher must begin with the end in mind.
۰ students need to be actively engaged in instructional tasks in order to increase their rate of learning.
۰ a teacher must present information directly and explicitly so students can generalize what they have learned and use it in meaningful ways outside of the classroom.
۰ a classroom should promote a positive learning environment where every student feels important and is encouraged to share his or her thoughts and questions.
۰ teachers need to be held accountable for the learning which takes place within their classroom.
۰ it is the teacher’s responsibility to set high expectations for every student in order to help each reach his or her full potential.
۰ the teacher is there as a guide to knowledge who should encourage students to become independent learners, building self-efficacy and self-respect through this process.
